Review: Timeline British History Game

Thursday, September 14, 2017

I am loving being a part of the Blogger Board Game club so far, this time I opted for a more adult game because games are not just for children and we love a bit of competitiveness when it comes to playing games. I didn't know what game was going to arrive and was really pleased to receive Timeline British History edition.

I had briefly played this game at Blog On back in May and really enjoyed it. It really makes you use your brain and think about the answers. Each player is given 4 cards and the aim of the game is to be the first player with no cards remaining. Each card has an event in British History with the name of the event, on the other side of the card is the date in which the event happened. One card is placed with the date upwards and the players have to try and decide whether they think the event on one of their cards happened before or after that date. The more cards that are in the timeline, the harder it becomes as you have to try and find the right slot in the timeline for your card without looking at the date. If you get it wrong, you have to pick another card from the box meaning your pile of cards doesn't get any smaller!

There is a mix of both 'Modern British history' and ancient and medieval history. You may find you are more knowledgeable when it comes to the Tudors than you are modern politics, which was definitely the case for me. I loved History at school and learning all about the Kings and Queens and wars and was surprised at how well I still remembered many events. Modern day life however was not my strong point and anything in the last few hundred years I found choosing dates very difficult!

There are 110 cards in total, so more than enough to be rotated enough so that you won't remember all of the answers! It is a great game with easy to follow instructions. We have played this game a few times now and have both really enjoyed it with neither of us being particularly better than the other so we have both won and lost a fair amount of times. Which is good as I am quite a sore loser! There are other versions of this game available including Music & Cinema, Science & Discoveries, General Interest, Historical Events, Inventions and there is even a Star Wars version!

Once again I am really pleased with our latest game and am excited to see what we receive next!
