Review: Dobble #BoardGameClub

Over the next 12 months I will be working closely with Esdevium games as part of the Blogger #BoardGameClub where each month we will be sent a totally different game and asked to give our honest feedback on each one. Each months game is a surprise to us and the first game we have received as part of the Blogger Board Game club is Dobble. A great family-friendly game which I actually first saw at Blog On MSI back in May where I was given a little taster.

Dobble is a game that requires speed, observation and quick reflexes. Players race to be the first to spot a matching pair of symbols between one card and another, shout it out, then claim or discard a card depending on which version of the game you play. The game instructions leaflet that comes inside the tin has a list of 5 different mini games to try out.

As I expected, the kids love Dobble. They definitely enjoy playing with each other rather than adults as they are not quite quick enough yet to beat us! We have a very competitive household! What I was surprised at was Elsie's ability to grasp the concept of the game after a few times watching everyone else play. The game is aimed at children 6+ but I think that it is more than manageable for children 3+, they will obviously just be a tad slower but it is a great way to teach them valuable observation skills.

It is a great, fun game and I love that the cards are stored in a tin and not a cardboard box as most card games end up with broken boxes and missing pieces in this house. The Dobble game is perfect for travelling and taking on holiday as it is quite small and easily stored. By trying out the different games, you won't get bored too quickly. With the kids we have tried 'The Towering Inferno', where you aim to have the most cards at the end of the game, 'The Well', which is the opposite and you aim to have the least cards at the end of the game and 'Hot Potato', where you aim to get rid of your cards as fast as possible to your opponents. Each game has gone down really well and created lots of laughter. The one the kids keep going back to is The Well as they seem to be getting better and better at that one and are really enjoying it.

Overall, we have been really pleased with Dobble and are looking forward to seeing what the Blogger Board Game club will bring us next!
