Nutmeg Spring Summer 2015 #NutmegSS15

Saturday, January 31, 2015

This week me and Elsie headed into London to see what Nutmeg have to offer the world of children's fashion for SS15. Having three young children, being able to buy them nice stylish clothes on a small budget is very important and Nutmeg makes it possible to do just that.

The new season brings summer essentials in bright colours and lots of beautiful floral patterns. I know a little girl who would be in heaven choosing from all the gorgeous dresses, playsuits and skirts. With girls T-shirts from £2 and skirts from £5, you can get a whole outfit for under £10. I personally love the pretty Mac's which are perfect for summer. The boys collection consists of cool polo shirts and slogan tee's and plenty of different coloured long shorts. Many of the boys tee's start at just £2.50 each and shorts at £5 which is an absolute steal.

Who can complain when you can get a whole outfit for around £10 and from my experience, the clothes are fantastic quality. I am definitely looking forward to purchasing some of the new range!

We received a goody bag for attending this event but all opinions and photographs are completely my own.

Glitterbelle, The Sparkliest Princess Ever!

Thursday, January 29, 2015

Parragon have recently introduced Glitterbelle, a fun glittery, sparkly princess and star of her own book series. In 'Glitterbelle, The Sparkliest Princess Ever!' she has a problem similar to many girls and boys. She will not eat her peas! We all know that frustration when your child refuses to eat something without trying it and the King and Queen try to persuade her to eat them. When Glitterbelle questions whether she is a real princess, as all real princesses love peas, the Queen and an old familiar fairytale help her to discover her love for the little green veg!

Gracie loves the Glitterbelle book. Although it is aimed at children aged 6+ she really enjoyed listening and telling me that she is a real princess because she likes peas! I think it is a great story for young girls and boys and I love the references to The Princess and The Pea. It was one of my favourite fairy tales as a child. I won't ruin it for you though, you will have to find out what that story has to do with Glitterbelle. The illustrations are just as brilliant as the story, if not more so. Gracie loved looking though the pictures to see what was happening and to see what the pretty princesses were wearing!

There are three other items in the Glitterbelle range so far. Unfortunately I haven't seen the others yet! BUT one of you might be able to bag yourself three items from the Glitterbelle range thanks to Parragon Books. I have ONE set of three items, one activity book (Doodle, Dazzle, Create), one picture book and one journal.

If you can't wait you can buy a copy here on Amazon.

Good luck!

Week 4 Day 19-25 #Project365

Monday, January 26, 2015

With poorly children this week I managed to forget to take a photo at all Friday! But I decided to carry on regardless as I am having fun looking at each weeks photos. Here is a look at what we got up to in Week 4.
Monday 19th January 2015

I've always been a fan of all things geek. Superheroes, comics etc. and have recently started collecting Pop! Vinyl figures. On Monday I actually had three pop figures arrive as well as My Geek Box sub box. I love an exciting mail day.

Tuesday 20th January 2015

Tuesday we had our first family session at Gracie's school which meant me and Zach could join her class for an hour. This session was a family reading session and Gracie got to bring home two new books thanks to Bookstart. We then came home to find her Glitterbelle book from Parragon Books had arrived so we spent lots of time reading that day.

Wednesday 21st January 2015

Wednesday, Gracie was home from school as she wasn't feeling well, so we spent the day inside and decided to play with the kids new stamp set.

Thursday 22nd January 2015

Thursday night I did some work on the blog before watching Arrow series two. Elsie joined me and was just as engrossed as I was!

Saturday 24th January 2015

My Dad came back from holiday this week and so came to visit us on Saturday. He was immediately pulled into board games and jigsaws galore. The kids love seeing Grandad and it is always nice to see them spending time with him!

Sunday 25th January 2015

I love this photo from Sunday. On opening the curtains in the morning, Elsie swiftly pulled the blanket over her head and went back to sleep. At least one of my children appreciate a Sunday morning lie in.

Elsie's Dairy Free Weaning Journey

Thursday, January 22, 2015

A few weeks ago we had Elsie's first ever dietician appointment. Although I have weaned a dairy free baby before, it is nice to know that this time we have plenty of support and professional advice this time round.

I found myself very limited in what I could feed Zach for fear of setting off an allergic reaction and stuck to making my own vegetable purée's. This time I can experiment a lot more. I've been given some dairy free recipe books and the go ahead to start weaning straight away as she is showing all the signs of being ready.

We haven't got to go back to see the dietician until she is 1 now as I am confident with what I am doing and so I have a phone number to contact if I do have any questions or worries, but we don't have to go back until she is old enough to try to introduce dairy. This is the part I am not confident with. I never had any help with Zach and at 2 years old he still reacts to any slight milk content that he is given. I don't know where to start or what foods are easiest to reintroduce. Having a dairy free child can be a bit of a battlefield and there is so much conflicted advice when it comes to weaning.

We have started her mainly on baby rice and purée fruit but she isn't overly fussed by food yet and only has a few mouths full. Totally different to her brother and sister. I will keep you all updated on how she is getting on and hopefully, when I start making her proper food, I will write up some easy to make dairy free weaning recipes for anyone interested.

If anyone has any great ideas for dairy free foods I would love to hear?

Week 3 Day 12-18 #Project365

Sunday, January 18, 2015

It's week three and I am struggling to keep up already! I must make more of an effort to take photo's next week!

Monday 12th January 2015

Monday, Me and Gracie were lucky enough to have some rare time alone at home whilst both Zach and Elsie slept so we decided to practice her writing she can almost write her own name perfectly. Just a few backwards letters to work on!

Tuesday 13th January 2015

Tuesday, I sorted all of Elsie's toys in to boxes so we can enjoy playtime in the evenings without Gracie and Zach around to steal them off her. As you can see she approved of the plan!

Wednesday 14th January 2015

Since I am finally finishing my bedroom, we have moved on to adding some new furniture pieces including these cute bedside tables! I also have an amazing shelf to put up but I will share that picture once it is up on the wall.

Thursday 15th January 2015

Another playful picture of Elsie for Thursday. The kids are loving showing her all of her cool toys and she loved this dolly!

Friday 16th January 2015

I love this picture from Friday. Gracie was feeling a bit unwell and her and Elsie were snuggled together watching Peppa Pig. I tried to take a picture just as they both turned around. I think they look so alike here.

Saturday 17th January 2015

I had been saying to Andy how I hadn't got a nice picture of Zach yet this year. He moves so quick so pics are either blurred or have half of him in frame. So when we had a pub lunch on Saturday I managed to capture this cute photo of him playing in the children's play area.

Sunday 18th January

Today we went to a friend's daughter's 4th Birthday Party. The kids got to dress up in their favourite dressing up outfits, Gracie chose her Anna dress and Zach chose a Captain America costume. I really wish I had taken a before photo as I washed and blow dried it and it fell into a side parting just like Captain America's does!

Weebledown Farm Character Range

Saturday, January 17, 2015

Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down
Now I have to admit I am one of the only people that doesn't remember Weebles, but I do always find myself singing the catchy tune thanks to the adverts on the TV. The kids know the Weebledown Farm advert pretty well so were very happy to see Fluffy the Sheep appear in the house this week.

Each cute character comes complete with a grass base and fence for them which can be connected together when you buy multiple characters. The character wobbles around either on their base or any other surface and the kids love testing how easy it is to make them fall down! The characters are well made and feel really durable, perfect for toddlers! My kids love the facial expression on Fluffy.

The characters retail at £4.99 each which isn't a bad price. The Weebledown Farm Mill & Barn can be bought for £29.99 and the Wobbily Tractor with Farmer Barleymow is £19.99. The whole range looks like lots of fun. I think Gracie and Zach would especially love the tractor with Farmer Barleymow. I do think it is limited what you can do with just one character and would recommend that they are bought together either with the farm mill or tractor so they can really be enjoyed. Our sheep is happy enough playing with his wooden friends in our farm though as you can see below!

You can see the whole Weebledown Farm range online here.

Attempting To Shed The Baby Weight

Friday, January 16, 2015

Before Christmas I decided it was time for me to start trying to shed some of this extra weight I put on when having Elsie. Now that I've finished having babies I am ready to get myself into shape and start to feel good about myself. I've decided to go with the Slim Fast diet as I like milkshakes and it gives me a bit of freedom with what I can eat. In the two weeks before Christmas I managed to loose roughly 7lb before putting a pause on my diet for between Christmas and New Year to ensure I didn't start to resent dieting watching everyone else eat what they want.

Since the New Year I have been back at it. I actually lost 1lb over Christmas without dieting but I am definitely loosing it a lot slower since the year began. I've invested in some new much better electric scales to weigh myself with and I am using the myfitnesspal app to record my weight and create a food diary so I can keep track of how much I am eating.

Although I'm not loosing as much weight as I hoped so far it is slowly dropping off and I feel so much more energised. I feel so healthy and I'm thinking of starting some kind of exercise. After three c-sections my stomach muscles have taken quite a hit and so I'm hoping to build them back up as I go. I'll try and update on here how I am getting on and share any tips I might find.

I'd love to hear any tips you might have in the comments below?!

Week 2 Day 4-11 #Project365

Sunday, January 11, 2015

A few more photo's for this weeks #Project365. Here are days 4-

4th January 2015

Gracie loves Barbie at the moment and was bought a retro Barbie duvet cover and fleece blanket for her birthday. She was so excited to go to sleep in her pretty new Barbie bed.

5th January 2015

Monday I made the decision that I wanted to make a start on finishing the projects I had planned all around the house starting with painting my bedroom. I love how fresh it is feeling now and it is ready for all the finishing touches now.

6th January 2015

Tuesday I was feeling unwell so I spent the evening catching up with some knitting for the patchwork blanket I planned almost two years ago now and never completed before having an early night.

7th January 2015

Wednesday was my first morning back on the school run after Daddy had taken Gracie earlier in the week. All three kids needed waking up but it was a lovely morning. It was nice to not need a raincover on the pushchair and I got to see this beautiful little face staring at me.

8th January 2015

Thursday we had Elsie's first appointment with her dietician who said she is now ready to start with dairy free weaning and was so excited to be shopping for real food.

9th January 2015

Turns out that Elsie is a big fan of food. She is loving her baby rice in this photo.

10th January 2015

Saturday saw me escape from the house with Hannah from A New Addition to go shopping. We found lots of bargains and now have lots of gifts to stash away for birthdays and next Christmas already.

11th January 2015

Today has been a day of odd jobs. One being to put up the huge Spiderman wall sticker in Zach's bedroom for him. He was very impressed!

Review: Slumberdown Electric Blanket

Thursday, January 08, 2015

I know one of the things I dread the most this time of year is when you are cosy and warm and know that you need to get undressed to get into a cold bed. This is a lot worse for us as we have no heating in our house. Just the nice warm fire in the downstairs living room. This means it gets very cold upstairs. Thankfully Slumberdown offered me their Winter warm electric blanket to review. There were no second thoughts about this offer, I couldn't wait to try it out!

It was nice and easy to set up. Simply remove from packaging and place on mattress at the foot end of the bed. There are strings which can be tied around the mattress to avoid it slipping as you can see in the picture below. You then simply pop your bed sheet over the top of the blanket and use the plug to connect to the plug socket. There are three different heat settings, 1, 2 and 3, with 1 being the lowest and 3 the highest.

We use this blanket daily now. We pop it on an hour before we go to bed, not that it needs to be on that long but we love the bed to be very warm when we get in! When we have forgotten we can put it on number 3 for just 5-10 minutes and that is more than enough. The blanket is machine washable although I haven't felt the need to wash it yet. There are detailed instructions on how to wash safely to ensure you don't damage the blanket.

I absolutely love the electric blanket and Andy has declared it as the 'best review product I have ever received' and I have reviewed lots of fab products over the years!

The Slumberdown electric blanket is available in single (£20), double and kingsize (£30) and is available to buy at Tesco.

A Look Back On 2014

Monday, January 05, 2015

A lot happened in 2014. For me I look back on 2014 with mostly happy memories. 2014 saw us settling in our new home, enjoying a nice family holiday, preparing for and finally welcoming Elsie and Gracie starting school. These were just some of the highlights of our year. To celebrate I've been looking back on photos and have chosen just some of my favourite photos from the last year.

Our Christmas 2014

Sunday, January 04, 2015

Over Christmas I decided last minute to take some time off. Rather than spending whatever free time I had on the computer blogging I decided to spend every second I could with my family while we were all at home together. We had the most magical Christmas. With all three kids being poorly the week before I had almost lost hope of it going to plan. All the hard work paid off. Me and Andy spent Christmas Eve building toys and piling up the presents. I actually think this is one of my favourite parts. Playing Santa and the excitement for me is the build up imagining how excited the kids will be the next morning.

Shockingly the first up was Gracie at 9am! Much better than the 6am last year and she was jumping up and down on our bed saying 'Is it Christmas?' 'Has Santa been?' 'Can we go downstairs yet?'. In the end I woke Zach up at 9.30am to avoid Gracie actually bursting with excitement. Of course the faces were amazing. I wish you could just bottle up that feeling when they see that Santa has been and that they have made the good list. Gracie was so excited that he didn't forget Elsie and Mummy and Daddy too! Gracie was my favourite to watch this year. With every parcel opened she exclaimed 'That's my favourite' 'I've always wanted that' and she was so happy with each and every present she opened whether it big or small. Zach was mainly happy with any food related parcel and was amazed at anything Batman.

I cooked Christmas dinner for the first time ever. There were four adults and two kids. I have only ever actually cooked for the four of us before so was dreading not cooking enough or burning what I did cook. In fact I did good! Didn't burn anything, didn't get stressed and kept the kitchen tidy in the process!

The following day we had Christmas part two. It has always been tradition that I spend Boxing Day with my Dad and family, a tradition that I have always loved and so even now I like to carry it on and host myself.

I really enjoyed Christmas this year. It's a shame it is over so quickly. It's been nice having Gracie at home all day and to even have Andy home for a few days. I'm also so thankful to Andy for my amazing Christmas present. My beautiful new camera that I can now capture all these memories with.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year and wish you all the best in 2015!

Week One Day 1-3 #Project365

Saturday, January 03, 2015

Last year I failed at Project 365 after having a rough couple of weeks early pregnancy and never got round to completing it. I thought I would try again this year. So here are Days 1-3:

1st January 2015

This photo was taken on mine and Gracie's girly trip to the Cinema to watch Tinkerbell and the Neverbeast. We had a lovely time together and we spotted this guy on our way out! This is next on our list of films to watch this year.

2nd January 2015

Elsie is suffering pretty bad with her teething and so today was a chilled out day with the kids while Andy was working. With jigsaws, mini picnics and lots of baby snuggles.

3rd January 2015

A nice early morning picture. These two girls really are best friends. This picture is of them chatting away while Gracie tries to teach Elsie to roll over.

You can see my photos daily over on Instagram. You can also see all the other blogs joining in #Project365 on The Boy and Me's blog by clicking the link below
